Downtown Saint Paul Ramsey

George Kraft occupied many photographic studios in and around Saint Paul during his forty years as a professional photographer. This building was on the same block as Truman Ingersoll's photo studio. All of the buildings on this block were taken down to make way for the Saint Paul Central Library, which still occupies the entire block south of Rice Park.

The following description of George Kraft's photography comes from a book published in conjuction with the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.

"Mr. Kraft is a native of Sweden and a young man whose soul is in his work. He has been in St. Paul for the past fifteen years, and established himself in this business eight years ago... Mr. Kraft executes all kinds of photographic work, but makes a specialty of cabinets at $2.00 per dozen, which have been pronounced by critics to be the best in the city. His work is instantaneous, and he is most successful in posing and grouping, always securing an easy effect and a vivid, sheerful likeness. In children's work he surpasses anything we have seen, and those having a desire to secure a perfect picture of their little ones would do well to give him a trial. His photographs are all permanent and enduring inasmuch as he is careful to use none but the very best materials in their development. In landscape work, street scenes, cartoons, water-colors, India ink, pastels, crayons and all kinds of enlargements he has no superiors, while his prices throughout are based on the most moderate scale."
