According to the Ramsey County Historical Survey, "This brick house is a fine example of Victorian, Italianate, and Eastlake design on a smaller scale. It is basically unchange since its construction and retains, at rear, a carriage barn of the same period. The house is the best preserved and most intact example of these houses associated with the brewery entrepremeurs on the West Side."

History

This house was built about 1885 for Edward H. Heimbach, a boot and shoe retailer. Heimbach, whose father was a West Side German immigrant brick mason, married Elizabeth Brueggemann in 1883. Local tradition maintains that Martin Brueggemann built the elaborate brick home for his daughter. Martin Brueggemann established the second brewery in Saint Paul.
