Built to house the Fireside Weaving Industry, this one-story structure was constructed of logs according to a design by G. H. Gray, architect. The plan is U-shaped with an irregular gable roof, gable dormers, and stone chimney. A Low-lying effect is achieved by deep eaves and window lintels set under the eaves. The building was named for Sunshine Ballard, the wife of Kentucky Lieutenant Governor S. Thruston Ballard (b. 1855) who donated the funds to construct it.
