Downtown North Platte's skyline-dominating Pawnee Hotel, previously named Hotel Yancey, is listed on the National Register of historic places. This eight-story brick Georgian Revival hotel was designed by architect F.A. Henninger and constructed in 1929 by Alex Beck, who also designed and built the Fox Theater across the street from the hotel. Minor alterations have occurred on the first level facade, but the hotel retains its historic integrity. This building has played a significant role in the commercial history of North Platte. Since its opening in 1929 it has been the site of numerous public events. Celebrities and Heads of State have stayed overnight, and Elegant receptions have been held in the second-floor ballroom.
