History

Harry Blackmun, born in Illinois in 1908, moved to Saint Paul with his parents, Corwin and Theo Reuter Blackmun, as a young child. In 1910 the census gives the family's address as 308 Ramsey Street. The family later moved to this house in Dayton's Bluff, where Harry attended Van Buren School with Warren Burger. Both became justices of the United States Supreme Court. Blackmun's father was a grocer. The 1920 city directory lists two grocery stores owned by him: The Blackmun Co. at 198 Bates and the Blackmun-Schabacher Co. at 376 Maria Avenue.[1] [1]
